Mary Fairfax Greig Somerville born in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland. She is most famous for her translation of Laplace's "Mechanique Celeste" in 1831. She has published various papers in physics and a treatise "Finite Differences." Somerville College in Oxford is named in her honor, and also has a crater on the moon named after her, as do many other mathematicians.
